High-Intensity Interval Training Combined With Vibration and Dietary Restriction Improves Body Composition and Blood Lipids in Obese Adults: A Randomized Trial

Does adding whole-body vibration recovery to HIIT and a hypocaloric diet improve body composition and lipid profile in overweight or obese adults?

Summary

In 40 overweight or obese adults, 8 weeks of cycling HIIT plus whole-body vibration recovery and a hypocaloric diet reduced body fat percentage, triglycerides, and total cholesterol. HIIT plus diet without vibration and diet alone did not show the same significant lipid or body-fat changes.

Methodology

  • Sedentary overweight or obese adults without diabetes or advanced cardiovascular, renal, or hepatic disease.
  • 40 participants.
  • Cycle ergometer with WBV recovery.
  • Work intervals: 1 minute.
  • Recovery: 2 minutes total; HIITWBV included 1 minute vibration during recovery.
  • Intensity: 90% HRpeak.
  • Variable with progression; ended with 5-minute cool-down.

Insights
